I am in the habit of saying to my son that the polymer block he waves at me is « Mummy’s playdough ».  Indeed, polymer clay is a material which can be moulded like playdough and hardened like clay. Many brands compete over the polymer clay market, FIMO certainly being the most famous of all as it is well-known to the amateur crafters especially children. Yet, each brand has its own attributes making it a highly versatile material for the clay artist to use according to his needs. The possibilities with polymer clay are endless – shaping with your bare hands to using moulds, blending the existing colours for an infinite palette, sculpting before or after the hardening process, inlaying objects, layering for a 3D result, painting it over – an amazing playing field for the explorer artist!
